This year, Open Source Days conference has invested, alongside the well known themes, in a new topic, the intriguing and en vogue topic of Open Data. Considering it’s novelty, we have decided that a few words on our motivation for opening a dedicated track are in order.
We have just added the closing keynote to the program. This year we've invited Country Manager Henrik Andersen from Ibas Danmark for some much needed recovery time after two days of hectic conference activity.
During the last couple days we've published most talks scheduled for Open Source Days 2013. Behind the scenes we're still quite busy talking to people and getting even more talks added to the program.
We're aiming for 7 full tracks again this year amounting to roughly 60 talks. Don't miss out on the many interesting program updates and news that'll be published over the next few weeks in preparation for the conference.
Open Source Days is the premier danish open source event.
We have about 500 visitors most of whom work in systems administration, network administration, software development or project management.
In addition to our visitors we have a wide variety of exhibitors and sponsors covering media, training courses, software development, hosting and consulting companies.
And to top all this you'll have a fantastic chance to meet highly skilled developers and other contributors working on some of the open source projects critical to running your business.
We are now opening up for user group submissions for Open Source Days 2013. Our wish is that the community groups will start planning for their activities and events for their booths immediately. Open Source Days will deliver the infrastructure and by doing so give the user groups the best possibly platform for strong community content at the conference.

The best introduction would be to shortly define the concept of Open Data and what is it that makes it so popular these days. “Open data is data that can be freely used, reused and redistributed by anyone – subject only, at most, to the requirement to attribute and sharealike. “(Open Knowledge Foundation).It is data that has no restrictions that would prevent ‘commercial’ use, or restrictions of use for certain purposes. Very simply put, it’s for free and you can do anything you want with it. Although it has the glare of an overly enthusiastic altruistic gesture, opening up data has real strong economical benefits as proven by many local, regional and international reports. As a result, political agreements at national and international level that encourage the process of opening up data were signed.
Denmark is no stranger to this movement. The initiative was launched in 2009, with open seminars for data enthusiasts, the launch of the Data Catalogue and a national data contest. Denmark has long passed that stage and this year, in January has conquered two very important milestones that attracted the praises of entire Europe, the release of the basic geodata free of charge and making the Danish Company Register accessible free of charge. And this is not the end.
For our Open Data track, we have worked to bring together the most suitable people to talk about it’s meaning and the implications for Denmark. A quick look at the Saturday schedule will reveal that our guests will tackle complex issues, that will array from motivation of open data policy in Denmark to open government and business value.
