Transportation

Introduction

Public transport in Copenhagen is generally very good.
Transport by car is also good - outside of rush hours.

In general we recommend that you use public transport.
A good guide about the system and tips for use can be found at www.visitcopenhagen.com.

Also have a look at the Map of Copenhagen.

Tickets for public transport

For public transport, the area is divided into zones. You will be travelling in zones 1(Central Copenhagen, Wakeup Copenhagen, Danhostel Copenhagen City) and 2(the conference venue), plus 3 and 4 for the airport.
If you stay at Danhostel Copenhagen Amager, then you will use zone 3.

All types of public transport in the Copenhagen area use the same zone layout, and you can switch transport (Busses, S-trains, Metro) as you like, as long as your ticket is valid - usually 1 hour.

We suggest that you buy a 2-zone 10 trip ticket early, and use that.
Several people can share a 10 trip ticket (but you of course need a stamp for each).
One 2-zone 10 trip ticket is 130DKK.

Transport from the airport

  • The best way to get from the airport to Wakeup Copenhagen and Danhostel Copenhagen City is by train.

The station is at/under Terminal3 (which is where you will exit customs).
Take the first train with destination 'Helsingør station' and get off at 'København H' (Copenhagen central station).
From Copenhagen central station you walk, 10min to Wakeup Copenhagen and 15min to Danhostel Copenhagen City.

You need 4 zones for this trip

  • The best way to get from the airport to Danhostel Copenhagen Amager is by Metro and bus.

The Metro station is next to Terminal3 (which is where you will exit customs).
Take the first Metro train (they all go the same way) and get off at Femøren' station.
There you take bus number 4A in the direction of 'Svanemøllen station', and get off at the 'Bella Center' stop - ask the driver to tell you when it is time.
From this stop it is a 2min walk to the hostel.

You need 2 zones for this trip

  • The best way to get directly from the airport to IT University (the venue) is by Metro.

The Metro station is next to Terminal3 (which is where you will exit customs).
Take the first Metro train (they all go the same way) and get off at 'Amagerbro' station.
From here it is a 15min walk to IT University.

You need 3 zones for this trip

Car

Traffic in Copenhagen is not very heavy compared to other large cities.
Parking however can be both expensive and hard to find.

Parking at IT University (the venue) is very bad.
Parking at Wakeup Copenhagen and Danhostel Copenhagen City is fairly expensive. 15DKK per hour in daytime (08:00 - 22:00). Finding a space is not easy.
We do not really know about parking at Danhostel Copenhagen Amager.

Cabs

Cabs in Copenhagen are reliable, and they all run by meter.
They all have a "Taxa" sign on the roof.

There are several companies, but as they all use the same meter, you should not care.
The start fee is 24DKK (37DKK if booked via dispatch), and approx 13DKK per kilometer (at night: 40DKK / 50DKK / 17DKK/km).

All cabs take credit cards.
Some drivers want to validate the card before the trip, so tell the driver that you want to pay using credit card when you get in.

Transport to IT University (the venue)

To get to the IT University, we suggest the following, based on where you start.

  • Wakeup Copenhagen
    Walk to 'Politi Torvet' (5min).
Take bus number 5A towards 'Lufthavn Udenrigs/Kastrup'.
You get off at the stop called 'Amager Boulevard/Amager Fælledvej' (ask the driver to tell you when it is time), and walk from there (10min).
    25min in total.
  • Danhostel Copenhagen City

Walk to 'Otto Mønsteds Plads' (5min) and take bus number 5A towards 'Lufthavn Udenrigs/Kastrup'.
You get off at the stop called 'Amager Boulevard/Amager Fælledvej' (ask the driver to tell you when it is time), and walk from there (10min).
    20min in total.

Or you might want to walk all the way (25min).

  • Danhostel Copenhagen Amager

You walk to the 'Bella Center' Metro station (5-10min) and take the Metro towards 'Vanløse'. Get off at 'DR Byen' station, and walk from there (5min).
    15min in total.

  • Generally
Take the Metro to 'DR Byen' station.
Walk between the blue and the black building, and you can not get lost. Look for a building with a big yellow-ish banner saying "IT-universitetet". It is 5min on foot.

The bus stops mentioned above are marked on the map
