Deadly Sins of MySQL and PHP

With Carsten Pedersen

It seemed such a good idea and made perfect sense when you did it, and now your application has come to a screeching halt. This talk, the result of a collaboration between several PHP and MySQL insiders, highlights issues that sneak up on the unwary when coding with PHP and/or MySQL: Using non-standard features, or applying "rules" which "everybody uses" but now everyone somehow seem to have forgotten why they were used in the first place. And then there are those little details that worked fine during testing, but come crashing down once 100 people start using your application simultaneously.

The talk is lighthearted and highly interactive, audience participation is required! Don't forget to take notes, and feel free to bring your own examples.

Carsten PedersenCarsten Pedersen joined Mybanker.dk as Alpha Geek in 2007, having spent the previous 6 years building and managing the MySQL professional certification program for MySQL, Inc. Over the years, he has talked at conferences and taught many MySQL courses in many cities of the world, from Silicon Valley in west to Beijing in east. Carsten has twice conspired with Paul DuBois and Stefan Hinz in authoring the MySQL Certification Study Guide which for some reason seems to be quite popular in the bookstores. He holds a Master's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Copenhagen.
